Musical BackgroundI first dreamt of becoming a concert pianist when I was nine years old. At the age of eleven, my teacher entered me for a county piano competition and I was astonished to win first prize. This was the first of many competition successes and it wasn't long before the lid of my piano was crammed full of trophies! My playing continued to develop and I was soon invited to have lessons with the senior piano professor at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Under his tutorage, I gave a number of public recitals and passed my final ABRSM Grade 8 piano examination with a high Distinction. After school, I auditioned for the country's top music colleges and was delighted to win places at them all. Although it was nice being spoilt for choice, the fame and prestige of London's Royal College of Music really grabbed my imagination. During my seven years at the Royal College I was privileged to study with some of the world's finest musicians who really helped to shape my musical personality. Over the course of my studies I acquired numerous awards and in my final year I was asked to play for the Oscar-winning movie "Shine" (a film about the virtuoso Australian pianist David Helfgott). However, as I was already committed to a number of other professional engagements around the time of production, I had to turn down the offer. I graduated from the RCM in 1996 with the following qualifications: MMus(RCM), GRSM(Hons), ARCM(PG), DipRCM(PfT) DipRCM(PfP). I have since broadcast several times for Radio/TV and now enjoy a busy career performing internationally. I have also played for various celebrities and been appointed to teach the family members of a number of stars including Pete Townshend, Adrian Edmondson, Jennifer Saunders, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Sir Laurence Olivier. ![]() |
